Hadley and I have this little thing we do some days after I pick her up.  We walk to a nearby coffeehouse and get some drinks and snacks before heading home.  When we walked in last Friday, there was a singer in there with his guitar.  He was singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow.  There are many versions of that song, but one of Jim’s favorites was done by a Hawaiian singer named Israel.  If you happen to have been a fan of ER, you may remember that when Dr. Green died, that was the song the show used at the end when his daughter released a balloon after his funeral.  It’s a wonderful rendition, but it’s a little bittersweet for me.

As we walked back to the car, Hadley said the music made her feel a little sad and that he made her miss dad.  As I lifted her into our car, she said, “I wish we had a wand.” I asked her why she wanted a wand and she said very matter-of-factly, “Because then we could bring Daddy back.”  I told her that a wand wouldn’t be able to bring him back but she said, “Well, it would if it was a magic wand.”
